Hicks Thomas partners John B. Thomas, John Deis, Courtney E. Ervin and Eric Grant have been named to the 2024 Lawdragon Green 500: Leaders in Environmental Law, a list of the top environmental lawyers in the country. All were recognized for their work in environmental litigation.

Mr. Thomas, who was selected for a second year to the Lawdragon Green 500, has represented both defendants and plaintiffs in environmental lawsuits. Known for his extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, he has also been named to Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Lawyers in America and its 500 Leading Litigators in America guides. Mr. Thomas’ work has also been recognized by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, Texas Super Lawyers and Benchmark Litigation.
Mr. Deis is a seasoned litigator who has handled several metals, hydrocarbon and chlorinated solvent contamination cases. His work includes claims under the Clean Water Act, RCRA, CERCLA, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program and the Texas Solid Waste Disposal Act. This is Mr. Deis’ second year on the Lawdragon Green 500 list. He has also been recognized on Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Litigators in America list and has earned recognition by The Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers.
Ms. Ervin focuses on high-stakes commercial litigation and has handled cases involving oil and gas, energy, environmental issues, insurance, construction, real estate, information technology and health care. Her work has been recognized by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, Texas Super Lawyers and Benchmark Litigation. Lawdragon also named her to its lists of 500 Leading Lawyers in America and 500 Leading Litigators in America.
Mr. Grant served four years as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. As the federal government’s top appellate lawyer for energy and environmental litigation, he supervised the appellate section, the Indian resource section and the environmental defense section, which defends rules issued by the EPA and other federal agencies. This is Mr. Grant’s second year on Lawdragon’s leading environmental lawyers list.
