Bio
Courtney is a business litigator with a particular emphasis in the managed care industry who works closely with clients faced with complex commercial disputes. Courtney has over 17 years of handling complex commercial litigation, representing clients in a variety of lawsuits, arbitrations, and counseling matters.
Courtney prides herself on the partnerships she builds with clients—working to understand her clients’ unique business challenges and ultimate goals and to align specific litigation strategy with those overarching considerations.
While the range of business disputes on which Courtney works crosses many industries, she has developed extensive and specialized experience in managed care litigation. On a daily basis, Courtney represents managed care clients—including group insurers, plan administrators, third-party claim administrators, pharmacy providers and employer groups. She handles cases involving disputes over medical benefits, claim billing and payment, reimbursement disputes, fraud, and other issues common in the healthcare industry.
Courtney is skilled in managing jurisdictional issues unique to ERISA and the healthcare space, and she is known for her practical approach to managing complicated and challenging matters, from the first filing or discovery request, all the way through trial.
Over the years, Courtney has built a wealth of knowledge on nuanced issues such as claims data management, medical coding, medical billing issues, and privacy issues that are unique to the health care industry, including compliance with HIPAA and other state and federal privacy laws.
Courtney’s strengths are constant attention to detail, building strong client relationships with consistent and clear communication, creativity in formulating a “big picture” strategy, and above all—hard work. As the daughter of Louisiana public school teachers, Courtney learned fundamental values, skills, and work ethic from what she witnessed every day. She strives to employ those same values in her service to her clients now.
Courtney was honored as a 2023 Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal, which recognizes litigators from across the nation who are “agents of change.” This recognition followed her defense of Rite Aid in Delaware state court, which resulted in a complete defense verdict following a two-week jury trial.
Courtney has also been recognized by the National Diversity Council and Healthcare Diversity Council as one of the Top 25 Multicultural Leaders in Healthcare (Houston). This recognition spotlights professionals who are dedicated to quality healthcare and have positively impacted the Greater Houston community.
Recently, Courtney was named a 2024 “Future Star” by Benchmark Litigation and also a 2025 “Best Lawyer (Commercial Litigation)” by The Best Lawyers In America.
